won’t acclerate files

During updating of voicepack, after accelerating 52008 files (in FS 2004 using VPE 3.1), when writing wave preferences,

I receive an error saying “can’t write a file if that file already exists.” The process stops. Any ideas???

I have definitely seen it before, but I do not think it was ever fully understood what triggered the error in the first place. 🙁
